Travel is a 19 year old grade mare (Tennessee Walker/Quarter Horse) I found on Craigslist "free to good home." She had an eye injury and her owner could not afford to take her to the vet. He wanted to find a good home for her—someone who could get her the medical care that she needed. He told me she was gaited and a really good riding horse. He hated to see a good horse not get the care she deserved.

So I went to look at her and when I got there I discovered she was completely blind! What I didn't understand was that she had already lost sight in her right eye and now her left eye was inflamed and swollen almost shut. She also wasn't being fed properly. I couldn't leave her there! I loaded her up and took her to the vet right away.

Turns out she has a condition called Moonblindness or Equine Recurrent Uveitis. After medicating her eye 5-6 times a day for a month or so and a few months of lots of hay and grain, we rode her. We found out that not only does she have a heart of gold, but she is an excellent riding horse. She's got that running walk and she can really travel!
